November 24, 2014, Guangzhou/Shanghai – Specialty chemicals group LANXESS will present its comprehensive and innovative inorganic pigments and biocides product portfolios for the paints and coatings industry at the upcoming ChinaCoat 2014, which will be held at the Guangzhou International Convention & Exhibition Center during December 3-5.

Rapid industrialization, economic development, and urbanization are driving demand for paints and coatings in China, making the country  the world’s largest producer and consumer of  paints. LANXESS is committed to meeting the rising demand with its sustainable solutions in inorganic pigments, industrial preservatives, dryfilm fungicide and algaecide.

LANXESS will feature its full range of inorganic pigment products under the brand names Bayferrox® and Colortherm® as well as the Preventol® biocides range for coatings.

Among the highlights is Bayferrox® TP LXS 5262 from LANXESS Inorganic Pigments business unit. The new yellow iron oxide offers a perfect complement to the well-established micronized iron oxide series Bayferrox® 3905, Bayferrox® 3910 and Bayferrox® 3920 with key benefits including  clean color shade, good dispersibility and low viscosity behavior in pigment preparations. These benefits make them the preferred choice in tinting systems.

Bayferrox TP LXS 5262 shows good wetting behavior which enables rapid incorporation. Furthermore, it opens up opportunities to realize higher pigment loadings because of low viscosity development in highly pigmented systems. Ease of dispersion in a  dissolver is of key importance in the reduction of energy costs and ease of incorporation leads to an even and homogeneous coating product.

The Inorganic Pigments business unit will also present the New Red pigments produced by the Penniman Red process. These highly saturated red iron oxide pigments complement LANXESS’ existing product range and strengthen LANXESS’ position to serve the growing markets in China and globally.

LANXESS is building a high-tech facility for the production of New Red iron oxide pigments in Ningbo on China’s East Coast with a designed initial annual synthesis capacity of 25,000 metric tons. At the same site, LANXESS is also constructing a mixing and milling plant for inorganic pigments with an annual capacity of 70,000 metric tons. The total investment at the Ningbo site is around EUR 60 million. LANXESS will be manufacturing high-quality, yellowish iron oxide red pigments there using an improved and highly sustainable Penniman Red process. Enhanced water and waste gas treatment will ensure good environmental compatibility. Thanks to a particularly energy-efficient process, the plant will meet the highest international environmental standards.

The plants are scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2015 and to start production in the first quarter of 2016.

“The trend towards urbanization is continuing unabated. Our decision to build the new production facilities in Ningbo is based on continuously growing local as well as global demand for iron oxide pigments,” says Rafael Suchan, Vice President for the Inorganic Pigments business unit in Asia Pacific. “Together with our Jinshan site in Shanghai, we will have a very strong base for our global production network. Further, by doubling our milling capacities to 70,000 metric tons in China, we are strengthening our position as the world-leading manufacturer of iron oxide pigments with a broad portfolio for the paints and coatings industry.”

“LANXESS will be the first manufacturer of iron oxide pigments to ensure sustainable production of bright yellowish red pigments with consistently high quality. Thanks to the new mixing and milling plant, we will be offering an expanded portfolio of pigments that features the New Red pigments alongside our proven inorganic color pigments,” Suchan added.

Other highlights include LANXESS Preventol® biocides range for coatings from LANXESS Material Protection Products business unit. Accompanied with outstanding technical service, the broad product lines in industrial preservatives, dryfilm fungicide and algaecide fulfill the key demands placed on such products: low toxicity, non-VOC, non FA, environmental friendly, cost-effectiveness and compatibility with other components of the coating. These products not only preserve the good appearance of facades or patios, for example, but also safeguard the value of these objects in the long term.

“We believe that the Asian region is a fast growing market with China leading in terms of topline growth. LANXESS is the largest provider of biocides in China and with our proven Preventol® line of products, we are equipped to cater to the growing demand of the large biocides market in the country,” said Vinod Agnihotri, Head of Business Unit Material Protection Products, APAC Region.

“With our new technical center in Singapore, we feel better equipped to serve the Asian market with even more expertise,” added Agnihotri.
