Color for corrosion protection paints

High performance pigments are used globally to color corrosion protection paints

Apart from surface protection against light, weather or chemicals, esthetics also play a role in corrosion protection paints. For the coloring of paint systems LANXESS inorganic pigments are often used. They are distinguished by their high quality. Besides their high color stability, the inorganic pigments are also lightfast and weather stable. This ensures a high level of consistency within the paint system.

The High Performance and High Performance Special Pigment ranges, which have been developed specifically for coatings applications, have a narrower specification range for color shade and color strength. In addition, they are distinguished by their high dispersibility. This is achieved by micronization, a very intense milling process which significantly reduces the level of pigment agglomerates

For the coloring of corrosion protection paints the whole color range of Bayferrox® and Colortherm® pigments can be used. For example the coating of the Eiffel Tower contains a Bayferrox® brown pigment. Red and black LANXESS pigments are often used in the ship building industry.

In applications which use pearl milling to disperse the pigment, LANXESS red pigments manufactured by the Laux process have significant advantages. These grades are calcined at very high temperatures during the manufacturing process; this results in pigments with particularly high milling stability. The risk of shade variation through ‘over milling’ is minimized.
