Long-term color strength for exterior walls and facades

Emulsion paints based on Bayferrox® and Colortherm® pigments are highly weather resistant and retain their color strength for the long-term

Emulsion paints are commonly used for exterior walls or facades. Apart from pure esthetics they serve as protection for buildings. To have this protective function, these paints also must have good water-repellent properties. In moderate climates certain water vapor permeability should be ensured. These properties are achieved by the right selection of raw materials and formulation. For the durability of exterior paints an outstanding light and weather stability are essential. This has to be considered when selecting the binders and the pigments. LANXESS pigments fulfill these requirements. They display excellent light fastness. Because of their chemical and physical structure, inorganic pigments are exceptionally weather-resistant and colorfast, so that the chosen shade can be retained over many years. A prerequisite for this high quality is that the binder also fulfills these requirements. The production and further processing should also meet the necessary technical standards.

Because of the high covering power of LANXESS pigments, the desired color shade can be achieved with the first coat of paint, provided that the right amount of pigment is included. Thereby, outstanding results at economical cost are ensured.

All emulsion paints basically deploy water as the "solvent". Depending on the binder, only a small  amount of a coalescing agent is needed. Today, there are also some paint systems that do not need any coalescing agent. Hence, they have a neutral odor and are environmentally friendly. They can be applied to nearly all mineral substrates.

In Europe today, many exterior wall paints are made based on silicate paints. The silicate matrix is very lightfast and weather stable. In addition these paint systems have a very low resistance to water vapor permeability. Because of their inorganic structure, the silicate binder is not able to wet organic components. Therefore, the use of organic pigments is not possible and silicate paint systems can only be colored with inorganic pigments. Many of the respective colors include LANXESS pigments.

The color range of the entire Bayferrox® and Colortherm® product portfolio includes Yellows, Oranges, Reds, Greens, Browns and Blacks. In between these colors a wide variety of additional shades is possible.
