Applications

A wide variety of industrial coatings

Red, Yellow, Brown, Green and Black Bayferrox® and Colortherm® pigments are applied in various industrial coatings.

Industrial coatings are high-grade systems that can be applied to almost any kind of everyday object. Such articles are made of a wide variety of materials and, in most cases, are finished with a surface coating to protect and preserve their value and/or to make them look more attractive.

Inorganic pigments from LANXESS meet with all of the industry's requirements in terms of color range. Our proven Bayferrox® and Colortherm® pigments satisfy all the key parameters for inorganic color pigments, namely maximum light fastness and weather stability and high color strength. In addition, LANXESS pigments display excellent chemical resistance which is of importance in the production of industrial coatings.

The High Performance and High Performance Special Pigment ranges, which have been developed specifically for coatings applications, have a narrower specification range for color shade and color strength. In addition, they are distinguished by their high dispersibility. This is achieved by micronization, a very intense milling process which significantly reduces the level of pigment agglomerates.

In applications which use pearl milling to disperse the pigment, LANXESS red pigments manufactured by the Laux process have significant advantages. These grades are calcined at very high temperatures during the manufacturing process; this results in pigments with particularly high milling stability. The risk of shade variation through ‘over milling’ is minimized.

For a particularly brilliant finish, iron oxide and chrome oxide pigments are frequently used in combination with organic pigments.

The Global Competence Center Paint will gladly answer individual customer inquiries with respect to this field of application or to provide further information about LANXESS pigments.
