Visual appeal of fairfaced brickwork

Bayferrox® and Colortherm® pigments are available in various color shades. With their high weather stability they are ideal for use in exterior building applications

Whether the intention is to provide a contrast or a homogeneous effect: integrally-colored mortar attracts the eye and underlines the visual appeal of fairfaced brickwork.

Pigments from the product ranges Bayferrox® and Colortherm® enable a durable coloring of cement-based and lime-based mortars. They are stable to cement and lime and resistant to light and weather. The pigments do not affect the mortar’s setting behavior or the effect of commonly used additives like methyl cellulose, zinc stearate, or plastic powder.

Inorganic LANXESS pigments are offered in the base colors red, orange, yellow, green, brown and black. Since any pigment can be mixed with any other, it is possible to create a wide variety of additional hues. Though it is mainly the pigment that accounts for the resultant shade, the natural color of the binder does play a role. The same mortar mixes will show different shades depending on whether white or grey cement is used.

In mortar formulations with grey cement, the addition of hydrated lime has, in general, a lightening effect. For that reason, the final color should be determined by a series of trials using exactly the same materials (binder, aggregates, and additives) as will be the case in production.

The Global Competence Center Construction will gladly answer individual customer inquiries with respect to this field of application or provide further information about LANXESS pigments.
